I’m only about 24 mins into this interview with Anthony Daniels, but he goes from his generally nice, absent-minded and genteel self to disclosing information which shocks the conscience in the span of an eyeblink. The lads from Triggernometry have been flabbergasted several times already.
There have been several statistical disclosures so far, my favourite being that it’s easier to find someone in prison in the UK to find someone who has committed 40 crimes than it is someone who has committed only one. But my favourite piece so far is when he asks us to consider, with our fortunate lives, that whilst many who commit crimes are poor, so to, almost invariably, are their victims. By failing to use punishment to the extent that we interdict crime, we are making people whose lives were already hard, needlessly more difficult.
